"The only time I truly feel alive is when I'm painting." - Vincent Van Gogh
Robert’s first sparks of creativity began when he was five years old while doing pencil and crayon drawings taken from his first schoolbooks. Most of those earliest drawings are now lost, but provided the foundation for his work that followed. Robert spent much of his early years sketching and painting along the upper Mississippi River.
By age twelve he was experimenting with oil painting, while living on southern Minnesota's farm country. He still has many of his original landscapes and portraits from that period.
Robert studied art under some of the finest instructors at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, The Minneapolis College of Art and Design, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis Drafting School, San Diego School of Fine Art, University of Washington, Seattle Community College and Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. His bold color sense and individual techniques reflect the depth of his present medium which is oil painting.
Most of the Bird Paintings shown here are oil painted on hand-made marbled papers.
He has had many solo exhibitions, across the USA, and has been included in several group shows at the Aarnun Gallery, Pasadena. His work is in over a hundred corporate collections and hundreds of private collections all over the world.
